The Sony World Photography Awards, supported by Sony since 2007, is one of the world's leading photography competitions, celebrating its 18th edition this year. The Awards offer a platform for both emerging and established photographers to gain international recognition and expand their careers.
The Awards consist of four competitions: Professional (body of work, 10 categories), Open (single image, 10 categories), Youth (single image, under 19), and Student (body of work), providing opportunities across all stages and genres of photography.
Special awards include the Outstanding Contribution to Photography, which recognises those who have had a significant impact on the medium; the Sustainability Prize, which celebrates photographers who address issues such as the environment, accessibility and social inclusion; and the National & Regional Awards, which honour outstanding talents selected from entries submitted to the Professional and Open competitions across individual countries and regions.
This year, as part of the National & Regional Awards, Noriko Hayashi received the Japan National Award and Susan Meiselas, known for her work on social issues, was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award.
The 2025 Awards received over 419,000 entries from more than 200 countries and territories, recognising 345 outstanding photographers.
This exhibition showcases the winning works from each competition, celebrating both individual perspectives and collective stories told through photography.
Entries for the 2026 Sony World Photography Awards will open on 1 June 2025.
