I use empty boxes - objects that would ordinarily be discarded as trash - to create a distinctive world of my own.
As a child, my favorite pastime was making things by hand. Being an only child, I often spent long hours quietly absorbed in a single activity. My mother would give me empty boxes she no longer needed, and I would turn them into small creations.
Though most empty boxes are eventually thrown away, for me they became gateways to expanding my imagination and giving it tangible form.
A box is a closed space; until it is opened, we cannot know what lies inside. Perhaps there is a world within that we have never seen. With that sense of possibility, I imagine the worlds contained inside each box.
As I continue working on this series, I strongly feel that those faint childhood memories - now blurred with time - are unconsciously guiding me today.
Through this work, I would be happy if viewers could experience, even briefly, the sense of excitement I once felt as a child, when imagination could expand infinitely from a single small point.
